Epik High – 1 Minute 1 Second

Epik High! This is one of my favourite Korean songs ever, from their album Lovescream. The MV is also one of my favourites. Watch it for yourself :)

I fell in love with this song from the first moment I heard it. The piano and strings throughout are gentle and calming, as are the vocals. Who knew rapping could sound like a lullaby? The female vocals are incredible – I can’t seem to get the line “I can’t let go” out of my head, haha. Speaking of lyrics, you really have to see the translation of these lyrics – they’re amazing. Sad, but amazing.

The MV…wow, I love the whole backwards retelling of the story. The ‘storybook quality’ that it has really draws you in. There’s honestly nothing I would change – it fits perfectly with such a beautiful song.

Cake for Jen

I made this cake as a birthday present a couple weeks ago for my friend, Jen, who I hadn’t seen for many months. It’s a two-layer chocolate cake frosted with seven minute frosting, and garnished with cocoa powder and chocolate wafer rolls. The blue ribbon was courtesy of Carol, haha. <3 I don’t usually use box mixes, but this time I was pressed for time, and I also didn’t have a chocolate cake recipe that was foolproof and sturdy enough to make anything other than cupcakes. The frosting, however, was made from scratch from a recipe by Paula Deen. It’s fluffy, marshmallowy, shiny, easy to spread, and not overbearingly sweet. I’ve made it many times, and it always turns out perfect.  It’s good with strawberries, too! Recipe below : )


Seven Minute Frosting:
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. Place sugar, corn syrup, salt, water, and egg whites in a large glass bowl.
  2. Fill a saucepan a quarter full with water, and bring to a boil. Put the glass bowl on top (don’t let it touch the water). Beat with a hand held mixer for 7 minutes. Use immediately after making.

               Well…I thought I’d go ahead and try something new – blogging. I’ve always loved reading other people’s blogs but I never got around to making my own until now.
